Bambike Ecotours: Intramuros
There’s a buzz going on that bikes made by our fellow Tarlacquenos are now part of the whole campaign to revive Old Manila.
Gaining a lot of local and international attention including CNN, Bambike is at the center of Bambike Ecotours Intramuros.
The first thing you need to know is this: the bike is a feature in itself.
Bambikes are handcrafted bamboo bikes built by skilled men of Gawad Kalinga Victoria, Tarlac. It takes about five weeks to build one so you can just imagine how intricate the whole process is.
Before you head out for the tour, be warned that the bikes will constantly amaze people. Really!
It is common, our sweeper Ryan told us, that you’ll go back to your parked bikes with people crowding around it.
The Bambike Ecotours Intramuros is an educational ecotour where guests get to ride on bamboo bikes around the walled city. Its 10km course covers 10 stops and some very interesting information on the building of the city, a Chinese pirate’s invasion, and hundreds of unearthed prisoners of war, to name a few.
The whole tour is the first of its kind in the city, usually the tours are either explored on foot
or on a kalesa, a traditional horse-driven carriage.
government offices and universities.
It could possibly be the funnest, greenest, and fittest way to explore the city. Plus the founder of Bambike himself, Bryan McClelland, might just lead your tour!
